Eugene C. Gartland, Jr.
(Chuck Gartland)
Emeritus Professor of Mathematics
Kent State University
As of September 2016, I have retired from teaching at Kent State
University. I remain in residence and active in research.
My home department is the Department
of Mathematical Sciences in the College
of
Arts and Sciences at Kent State
University. The Department offers degree programs at the bachelor,
masters, and doctoral levels in mathematics and applied
mathematics. I have been involved in the Applied
Mathematics Program.
My training is in numerical analysis. My current interests are in the
areas of computational applied mathematics, in general, with applications
to problems in liquid crystals, in particular. My interest in liquid
crystals stems from the fact that there exists at Kent a major research
institute devoted to their study: the Liquid Crystal Institute (LCI).
I was a member of the program faculty of the Chemical Physics
Interdisciplinary Program (CPIP)
for 18 years (1996-2013). I also served for 4 years (2000-2004) as
Treasurer of the International Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS),
a professional organization with nearly 1,000 members, from more that 40
countries.
More information about administration, awards, grants, publications, and
students is available in my short vita.
