Thank you for your interest in the Mathematics graduate program at Kent State University!

The mathematics graduate program, in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, offers Pure Math or Applied Math degrees of:

• Master of Arts (M.A.)
• Master of Science (M.S.)
• Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

The Master's program is intended for those students who want a professional education in mathematics beyond the Bachelor's degree level. The Ph.D. program, in contrast, is designed for students interested in becoming professional scholars, college and university teachers, or independent workers in private, industrial, or government research institutions. Our Ph.D. program is one of six mathematics Ph.D. programs in the state public university system, and one of only two in northeast Ohio. The mathematics program has 27 faculty, over 30 graduate students and approximately 100 undergraduate students. In broad terms, the faculty areas of research lie in functional analysis and operator theory, Lie representation theory, approximation theory, finite groups, character theory, number theory, large scale systems of equations, numerical and scientific computation, and probability and stochastic processes. DEADLINES: We do not have specific deadlines for admission. We continue to admit students year-round. However, if you wish to be admitted for a specific term, we suggest you allow at least 3 months prior to that term to allow paperwork to be received, processed, and your registration information to be mailed to you. Assistantship applications are considered one time a year six months prior to the start of the Fall semester of that Academic year. If you want to be considered for an assistantship, please make sure that your application reaches us no later than the January before the Academic year you in which you wish to have an assistantship. (Example, for Fall 2006 admission, you should have your assistantship application to us by January 31st, 2006.)

APPLICATION PAPERWORK: To ensure that your admissions application is processed as quickly as possible, please apply online through the main Kent State admissions link. However, to ensure that all paperwork is included, please check our Admission Requirements page. You will find that you need to include:

• Original Transcripts sent to Admissions
• TOEFL score sent to Admissions (for international students)
• Proof of Financial Support (for international students) 
• Personal Statement and Resume (can also be uploaded if you apply online)
• At least THREE recommendation letters - these MUST be postal mailed at this time.
• All of these (except recommendations) should be uploaded electronically or... sent DIRECTLY to one of the addresses below:
