These links are geared towards students in math to help them with their studies and work in mathematics at Kent State University.
If you find a link that is really useful to you, and you think I should add it to this page, then TELL ME ABOUT IT! Email me at mtackett@math.kent.edu and I will add it here. Thanks!

RESEARCH links

Before you look at any links below, FIRST GO TO THE
KSU MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES PROFESSIONAL RESOURCE PAGE

It was created by professors of the Math Department for your use. I have not compared my list to theirs, SO you should FIRST use their expertise before looking over my list.

Mathematics Software Information pages: (many thanks to Dr. Gartland)
  • MAPLE
  • MATLAB
  • Department Letterhead:See the README file and comments in the source files and examples found there.
[mscsletter.cls is built on top of the standard LaTeX letter.cls and tries to mimic our official departmental letterhead, providing the appropriate footers for either Math or CS (depending on the class options you use). It was written mainly for Linux/UNIX and works with those systems---I don't know about on Windows LaTeX-ing systems.]

KSU Math Journals: Active Library Serials/Journals in Math
Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis (ETNA) is an electronic journal for the publication of significant new and important developments in numerical analysis and scientific computing. Papers of the highest quality that deal with the analysis of algorithms for the solution of continuous models and numerical linear algebra are appropriate for ETNA, as are papers of similar quality that discuss implementation and performance of such algorithms. New algorithms for current or new computer architectures are appropriate provided that they are numerically sound. However, the focus of the publication should be on the algorithm rather than on the architecture. The journal is published by the Kent State University Library in conjunction with the Institute of Computational Mathematics at Kent State University. Mathematical Reviews will receive all papers accepted for publication in the journal and review them as appropriate. ETNA is registered with the Library of Congress and has ISSN 1068-9613.

PROFESSOR SUGGESTIONS
These are answers given to me by professors in the Math Department in response to a quick survey.

1)What resource do you go to first (web or print) when conducting >> research?

"For books and articles, I go to www.library.kent.edu, with links to journals and OhioLink; for reviews I go to ams.org with the link to Math Reviews (MathSciNet). "

"KSU library, word search, google word search"

"Journal articles and preprints of papers; also, coversations with visitors and friends. "

"Science Citation Index Expanded (OhioLink, ISI, Web of Science)"

2) Are there any other research resources (web or print) that you would particularly recommend?

"Preprint servers online, for new research announcements. "

"For computational work, I recommend looking at the freeware packages out there (in number theory, GP/PARI is my recommendation- it is often many times faster than the commercial packages Maple or Mathematica for difficult number-theoretic calculations). "

"...probably Studia Math, Israel Journal are the main culprits and others when they carry articles that are 'relevant'; and the journals in the library suffice for most all that I do. If I need something that's not there I can get copies through CISTI."

"Seminar notes and lecture notes from past years."

"Google, Google Scholar

mathworld.wolfram.com

scienceworld.wolfram.com"

3) What are YOUR particular research areas?

Professor research areas can be viewed on the main math website under the "People" section.
