"Nothing in the affairs of men is worthy of great anxiety." - Plato

GENERAL INFORMATION
Anxiety: A state of being uneasy, apprehensive, or worried about what may happen; concern about a possible future event. Characterized by a feeling of being powerless and unable to cope with threatening events, typically imaginary, and by physical tension as shown by sweating, trembling, etc.

Panic: A sudden, overpowering terror, often affecting many people at once.

Some interesting facts:
  • Panic disorder strikes between 3 and 6 million Americans, and is twice as common in women as in men. (Taken from http://www.anxietypanic.com/whatispd.html on May 10, 2005)
  • Many individuals with GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) startle more easily than other people. They tend to feel tired, have trouble concentrating, and sometimes suffer depression, too. (Taken from http://www.anxietypanic.com/whatisgad.html on May 10, 2005)
  • People with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) suffer intensely from recurrent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) or rituals (compulsions), which they feel they cannot control. ...About 2% of the U.S. population has OCD in a given year.... OCD cost the U.S. $8.4 billion in 1990 in social and economic losses, nearly 6% of the total mental health bill of $148 billion.
