This course is concerned with the understanding of fundamental concepts in
linear algebra and of their use in applied and computational mathematics.
Textbook: ''Linear Algebra and Its Applications,'' by
David C. Lay, third ed., Addison-Wesley, 2003.
Course outline: The topics discussed in the course and the
amount of time spent on each topic is described in the
course outline. Note that this outline is based on 50-minute classes.
Syllabus and homework assignments: A weekly detailed
syllabus with homework assignments is available
online. The syllabus will be updated every week.
Tests and quizzes: There will be a midterm exam and a final
examination. You must take all tests at the required time unless specific
alternative arrangements are made. There also will be short quizzes throughout
the semester.
Homework: Homework problems will be assigned. They are posted on
the syllabus. Some of the homework problems will
appear on the quizzes.
Grading policy: The two tests contribute 70% (35% each) toward
your final grade, and the quizzes 30%.
Registration information can be found
here. This site also discusses plagiarism, i.e., presenting
someone else's work as your own. This includes finding the answer of a homework
problem in a book or in someone else's assignment, and copying it. Plagiarism,
of course, is unacceptable.
