Capstone ProjectThe two credit hour one-semester Capstone project (MATH 69099, formerly taught under 67098) is usually taken after the two-semester MATH 64091 sequence. This is an individual investigation under direction of Mathematics faculty. The advisor for the project is usually one of your course instructors in the program, Jenya Soprunova, Artem Zvavitch, or Donald White.
The goal is that you investigate/research a topic which is of interest to you.
Here are some sources that can be used to look for project ideas. An investigation usually starts with reading a paper and may then continue with reading other sources and/or exploring questions related to the paper. Please think what you would like to work on and who you would like to work with. Talk to that person to see if they are available to work during the semester when you would like to do your project. Please note that while working during the summer might be an option, you need to make sure that your potential advisor is available over the summer. By the end of the semester you will produce a write-up of your investigation and a computer presentation (powerpoint/beamer/etc). Project presentations usually take place either in the last week of the semester or during finals week. Completed Projects |
