    How to Apply

If you want to take classes offered in our program you have three options, explained below. Here is a link to the application portal http://www.kent.edu/admissions/apply/graduate. Let me know (esopruno@kent.edu) if you have any questions or need help. Please alert me when your application is submitted.

  • You can apply for admission in the MST program. You will have six years to complete your degree after you have been admitted. The degree or credential you are pursuing is Masters. The intended major is Mathematics for Secondary School Teachers - MA. You are NOT applying for a combined program.

You will be prompted to submit your resume/vita and a goals statement, which is a short essay about your career plans. This essay can be very short, one paragraph is enough.

You will need to upload your transcripts. At this point, scans of official transcripts are fine, as long as they are legible. After you are admitted you will need to request official transcripts.

You will be asked to list three people who would write reference letters on your behalf. It is a good idea to ask a former instructor to write a letter for you, but you can also ask you principle or a senior colleague. The system will send these three people a reference letter request, but it is a good idea to talk to them too to make sure they are willing to write a letter on your behalf.

    The application fee is $50.

  • You can apply as a graduate non-degree student. In this status, you can take as many classes as you wish. The downside is that you can not obtain a degree while in this status. You can, though, count up to 12 credit hours earned in this status toward a degree if you decide to switch to a degree program later on.

The degree or credential you are pursuing is Non-Degree Seeking. The intended major is Graduate Non-Degree Admission - College of Art and Sciences (Important: NOT College of Ed Health HumSvcs), the program for which you intend to take classes is Mathematics for Secondary School Teachers - MA. You will need to provide a resume, a goal statement, and transcripts, but you will not be asked to provide reference letters. The application fee is $15.

  • Finally, you can apply as a guest graduate student. The downside is that you can only take up to 6 credits in this status and you will not be eligible for financial aid. The upside is that the registration process is fast and easy and you can request to count these six hours toward your MST degree if you decide to go for it later.

The degree or credential you are pursuing is Guest. The intended major is Graduate Non-Degree Admission - College of Art and Sciences (Important: NOT College of Ed Health HumSvcs) The academic unit is Art and Sciences (Important: NOT College of Education), the department is Mathematical Sciences, the program is Math for Secondary teachers.
